The musicians of the trio Batignano first met up whilst they were involved as performers in the annual summer opera festival centered on the remote Tuscan village of Batignano, Italy in 1997. A special friendship was born.
The name conjures up the very essence of what and how the group perform: the renowned classical blend of flute and guitar combined with the hot summer ‘taste’ of the saxophone. The musical freedom of such a trio enables Batignano to present its own unique versions of a variety of International folk music, Spanish flamenco, Argentine tango, along with renditions of Bach sonatas through to classic jazz melodies.
The members of Batignano are all experienced freelance musicians performing with many of the UK’s top orchestras including, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Opera House, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and English National Ballet, and contemporary ensembles such as Tetra Quartet, Quintessence, Delta Saxophone Quartet and the Michael Nyman Band.
The musicians have all toured extensively in Europe, central Asia and the Far East. Susie and Chris have worked with Total Music performing with Quintessence, Greenwich Winds and The Delta Saxophone Quartet in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Graham was visiting professor of guitar for The University of the Philippines, and toured Malaysia, Indonesia and India with the Internationally acclaimed Tetra Guitar Quartet. He has recently performed Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Batignano has quickly earned a reputation for presenting exciting and entertaining programmes covering a wide variety of musical styles. Its presentation is highly visual and informative delighting audiences from Hampstead to Hong Hong.
In July 2006 Batignano was invited to join ‘Music In Hospitals’, a UK charity which is dedicated to the presentation of top quality music within hospitals and community centers in the UK.
Prepare to be surprised, delighted and entertained by this energetic trio.
