Day nine of my mother in laws (actually she's a great person and we get on a dream!) imposed 10 day quaranteen since my return to the UK. I'm sending this Blog from a bright and breezy Edinburgh. SARS mania meant that the last few dates were held outside. The last concert at Prudence University was on a stage facing a mini sports stadia, a first Stadium concert for the DSQ (is this a sign of things to come?). The dry ice and bubbles (yes bubbles...this is Taiwan) added to this wind inspired finale.
This tour I think has made a great impact for British music and the arts in Taiwan. The quartet has made many new friends and efforts are now underway for a return in hopefully early December 2003 to complete/continue our work. Hong Kong will also form part of this itinery.
The quartet has just heard that it has received further funding form the PRS Foundation, a life line in the arts world. Unfortunately ensemble Q received the dreaded letter of 'hard luck, try again next year!' The fact of the matter is they have just completed a three day album recording of all British Composers for the FMR label (release set September 2003) of works by: Cashian, Macmillan, Davies, Duddell and Brady (4/5 their own commissions), they will soon get their just rewards, mixing now is the next step along the way.
I'm working on a newlsletter at the moment, this will be posted in the next couple of weeks.
Cheers
Chris
